Westpark Early Learning Centre Values

Westpark Early Learning Centre values are grounded on creating genuine, caring relationships with every family member, ensuring education success and the well-being of every child that attends our daycare.

At our daycare, we believe that children are able to learn through play and inquiry, which creates a fun learning environment for every child. We understand that every child is different, and are cognizant that they each have their own way of learning. Children’s ability to express themselves is gifted from their own personal style and form of expressing themselves.

The difference between early learning and childcare

While both early learning centres and childcare provide some education, Early Learning Education makes it a priority to teach children a curriculum that teaches interpersonal and social skills.

Toddler Care at Westpark includes countless options for advanced development. Our priority is building the perfect social atmosphere for your child to grow by leaps and bounds

On the other hand, childcare mainly includes a child learning to interact with other children their age, an environment that is different from the child’s home, fundamental education like ABCs and 123, and it usually doesn’t require a child to be potty-trained. Daycare institutions typically focus on providing supervised care for your children, while ELE centres focus on teaching children skills that are essential at an early age.

Our Registered Early Childhood Educators are committed to application of early learning programs customized for each age group. Educators closely follow and refer to the Early Learning for Every Child Today: A Framework for Ontario Early Childhood Settings, also known as the ELECT document

They continually observe children to develop a plan and activities that are developmentally appropriate while meeting each child’s individual needs. Through the planned activities, children develop and expand on the skills from the Five Domains of Child Development; which are:

  • Cognitive: learning cause-and-effect, reasoning, as well as early-math skills
  • Physical, Health and Well-Being: mastering movement, balance and fine and gross motor skills
  • Social/Emotional: creating and maintaining relationships with others and understanding emotions
  • Communicative: learning alphabetics, phonemic awareness, oral, and written language.
  • Adaptive: learning skills for daily living and self-help.

The difference between early learning and childcare

Choosing where to send your child to daycare or school is never an easy decision - but it can be significantly beneficial to both you and your child. Whether you are going back to work, studying, or need support with your child, there are a lot of options available.

At Westpark, we operate under the guidelines of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA). Our focus is to provide a stimulating educational experience promoting each child’s sense of belonging and their connection to the environment. We also encourage a sense of self and personal wellbeing promoting an active and engaged learning environment.

Educators closely follow and refer to the Early Learning for Every Child Today: A Framework for Ontario Early Childhood Settings, also known as the ELECT document. Within our early learning center, children develop and expand on the skills from the Five Domains of Child Development; which are:

  • Cognitive: learning cause-and-effect, reasoning, as well as early-math skills
  • Physical, Health and Well-Being: mastering movement, balance and fine and gross motor skills
  • Social/Emotional: creating and maintaining relationships with others and understanding emotions
  • Communicative: learning alphabetics, phonemic awareness, oral, and written language.
  • Adaptive: learning skills for daily living and self-help.
  • Complimentary to our play-based curriculum, we offer the Nippissing Screening tool, which evaluates children based on social milestones at all ages. Along with the Nippissing Development Screen parents are also provided with an Academic Evaluation twice a year. This gives our parents confidence about their child’s progress. Additionally, daily/weekly observations are documented through pictures and reports shared through our parent portal. This gives parents an appreciation of the value in play as they see their child progress.

Our preschoolers and kindergarten children are also given the opportunity to experience the French language. On a weekly basis, educators teach the children basic French, such as the alphabet, numbers and colours.

Other weekly activities include yoga, music and cooking.

We believe that through play and inquiry, children are better able to discover the marvels their surroundings offer. We recognize children’s ability to express themselves and are cognizant that each child is gifted with his/her own personal style and form of expressing themselves.
